Anchorage Middletown Fire Academy 2022

Application Period Has Ended For 2022 Fire Academy

you will need to begin your career with Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS as a new recruit.



Why Work For Anchorage Middletown?

  • Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS operates in Eastern Jefferson County Kentucky (Louisville Metro).
  • We cover approximately 90 square miles, including 12 miles of the Ohio River, over 30 miles of interstate, and all hazard types including commercial, industrial, and residential.
  • We operate out of 11 stations that house 11 staffed fire companies, 8 staffed ALS ambulances, 2 Battalion Chiefs, and 1 EMS Captain with a total of approximately 240 employees.
  • All operations employees are assigned to a 24 on, 48 off schedule.
  • We have our own training facility with classrooms, burn buildings, training tower, structure collapse prop, and confined space simulator.
  • We offer training in technical rescue including: Hazardous materials, water rescue, rope rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, structural collapse rescue, and vehicle machinery rescue.

What Does Drill School Look Like?

Great Question!

Upon successful completion of the application process you will be assigned to the Fire Academy.  Here you will learn everything you need to know from start to finish about what it takes to be a firefighter for Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS.


This academy will run for approximately 22 weeks.


You will learn all the basics: from what is fire gear, how to raise ladders, how to pull a hose line, how to rescue a victim out of a mangled car, to how to provide basic life support to a patient on a medical run.


Upon completion of the the Fire Academy you will be a Kentucky Certified 400-hr firefighter and a National Registry EMT.


You will then receive your assignment to a 24/48 hour crew.

Will it be hard? YES!

Will it be fun?  Absolutely!

I'm Sold! How Do I Get Started?

There's a few things you need to know... Here they are.

Here's some minimum requirements to apply:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have valid Driver's License
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Copies of diploma/GED and Driver's License MUST be provided with application

Application Process

  • Once you complete your application it will be reviewed by our HR team
  • If chosen you will participate in a civil service testing process from Fire & Police Selection Inc (FPSI) called the National Fire Select Test (NFST)

  • Applicants that successfully complete the test will move on to the physical agility test.  
  • Successful applicants will the be subject to background checks, interviews, medical exam and stress test.
  • If you make it past all that you will received an offer of employment to report to the Fire Academy.
